Course Replacement | Power Query Fundamentals

Effective September 15, 2026, the Power Query Fundamentals course will be retired and replaced with Introduction to Power Query. This article outlines why this change is occurring and which programs are impacted.

What's Changing

  • Reorganized modules. Related techniques (connecting to data, cleaning, reshaping, combining, and loading) are now grouped by task rather than taught as isolated features.
  • New module on repeatable workflows. Learners build queries that refresh automatically when source data changes, replacing manual, repetitive spreadsheet work.
  • Finance and FP&A-focused examples. Datasets now reflect real tasks like consolidating monthly files, cleaning system exports, and combining actuals/budget data. The skills still apply broadly to any data, BI, or analytics role.
  • Stronger emphasis on Applied Steps, the formula bar, and M code, so learners can troubleshoot and adapt queries with confidence — not turn Power Query into a coding course.

Why it matters

A well-built query replaces a recurring manual process: define the transformation once, then refresh it each period instead of rebuilding it.

Impact on Learners

Learners working to earn any of the credentials above must complete the program in full by September 15, 2026, to obtain their certificate under the existing requirements. After this date, the new Introduction to Power Query course will be required.
